Posts: 4 (2006-02-24 07:39:35) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	In the Tools Suite I have utilized functions like ttppggen and ttebkgen to their full extents, but looking at other functions like ttarchive/ttunarchive and ttpack/ttunpack, 1a. what is their purpose? 1b. what do they do? Also, 2. how does ttpack differ from ttppggen? I heard that both generated "exe-packed executables" And Finally, 3. can a calculator actually execute and use packed or archived variables generated by the Tools Suite? I mean like, it doesn't really say in the docs w/ Tools Suite... $:\$

No. For ttppggen, ttpack or pstarter is used to run those programs. For the others, it's the responsibility of the program using the data to unarchive and/or decompress it.

For the ttpack and ttarchive functions, it sounds like functions from Flib libray... Have you ever used it? Flib Link In Flib, it sounds like functions komp and group Anyways, for ttpack, should the compressed variable have the same extension as the variable compressed? But in the resulting ttpack file, since it doesn't begin with TI89 or something like that, it can't be sent to a calc, can it?

Posts: 7049 (2006-02-25 08:59:57) Admin Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	ttarchive and ttpack serve approximately the same purpose as group and komp, respectively, but they are very different: 1. the formats are not compatible, 2. ttpack compresses significantly better than KOMP and 3. ttarchive and ttpack run only on a computer, only decompression is possible on-calc. Creating a ttarchive would in principle be possible on-calc, but the code hasn't been ported because that's not what it's intended for. ttpack compression uses way too much memory to run on-calc.

If I understand correctly, both the output files from ttpack and ttarchive can be un-packed (or) un-archived on a calc. But then how can you do that? Do you use some program to unpack and/or unarchive? 2. This leads to a new question (I hope Im not getting annoying with all these questions) I heard that there could be ZIP and EXE files on a calc (some file managers claim to have EXE and/or ZIP support) How can you make a calculator ZIP file or EXE file? (sorry if Im getting a little bit off topic here, but this seems to be the only place where someone can help me)

Posts: 3059 (2006-07-30 18:13:54) Former Admin Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	For 1: there is no official standalone on-calc program for "unarchiving" a TTArchive to individual files, or unpacking a ttpack'ed file and letting it unpacked. The routines are usually embedded in a program, like the launchers generated by TIGCC for the compressed programs, or their generic version ttstart, or SuperStart. Decompression is temporary. IIRC, TICT eBooks (ttebkgen) are TTArchives.
