I was wondering what ttstart really does and if it could help me by making my program titanium-compatible? (More in general, do I need a custom launcher for larger programs to run on a Titanium?)
NOTE: the size is not close to 64k, if that helps |

No, ttstart is not needed on the Titanium for uncompressed programs, AMS 3 allows running programs up to the maximum handle size (64 KB) without a launcher.
What ttstart is still useful for on the Titanium is to run compressed programs. But if you compile your compressed program with a current TIGCC (0.96 Beta 6 preferably), you'll get a launcher (pstarter - Program Starter) adapted to your program (no need to give the PPG name as a parameter) which works on the Titanium, so you shouldn't need ttstart there either. |

ttstart is the generic launcher (you pass it the name of the program you want to decompress/launch); pstarters are specific ones.
Using one type or another is a matter of taste. I like ttstart better because: * when a new launcher version is needed, that's only one program to update. This is less of an issue than it used to be, but when the V200 and 89T appeared, the file archives were full of old pstarters that didn't work on modern models. * ttstart offers fast decompression routines AND slower decompression routines. * given that the size of ttstart is significantly less than twice as that of a pstarter (depending on the decompression routine flavour, sizes differ by several dozens of bytes only, or several hundreds of bytes for the fast version), you'll save memory on your calculator by using ttstart to replace two or more pstarters. I think most calculators have two or more compressed programs. Kevin likes pstarters better since one doesn't have to specify the program he/she wants to launch; he doesn't mind waiting a bit longer for decompression. |

The best of both worlds, I think, is the Super Start application, which installs a hook so you can just enter the name of a ppg file on the homescreen and press ENTER.

Yup, that's what I've been using too, for a long time. However, pstarters and ttstart have no problem working with AMS 1.00, while sstart, as a FlashApp using F-Line rom_calls, requires AMS 2.05.
I tried to make it work under older AMS 2.xx versions, but rewriting everything to use the plain old rom_call way is a PITA. |
