Posts: 548 (2003-10-30 17:45:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	NHL Hockey 2004 is basically a 3v3 Hockey game with 4 Modes of play. The game is fairly large and needs around 80,000 bytes of free RAM to run. I am mainly looking for testers to possibly find some bugs, but I appreciate all suggestions and ideas that anyone might have concerning the game. I have only tested the 92+ version on VTI, so it would be nice if someone could test the game on an actual 92+ or v200 calc. Calc-Calc Multiplayer has been extensively tested, but that is another area that I have mostly tested on VTI (Although, I have tested two Ti-89's several times). The game includes Ti-89 and 92+/v200 Binaries. ========= FEATURES ========= * First non-text Hockey game ever on a Ti-Calc * Multidirectional Scrolling Rink * 31 Official NHL Teams, (each with their own Roster, Style, and Player Types), Two being All-Star Teams * Strong A.I. * Two-Player Linking Option for Exhibition and ShootOut Modes!!! * Grayscale * Two Difficulty Levels * Set Game Time anywhere from 1 to 15 Minutes in length * 4 Modes of Play (Exhibition, ShootOut, Tournament, Practice) * Graphics from Ice Hockey for the NES * Runs Fast and Smooth on HW1 and HW2 68k Calcs * Ti-89/92+/v200 Compatible * 4 types of Players, (Goalie, Skinny, Average, Fat), each with their own strengths/weaknesses * Well Commented C Source Code included As to limit the number of persons that receive the Beta, please leave your e-mail address below and I will send you the files. I just wrote that so people would know what the game was about. I haven't come up with a good name yet, and am open to suggestions.

The game has been sent to the three of you, but my mail kept throwing errors when I tried to send the files to Kevin Kofler, and I'm not sure if he received them. All three files (89 binaries, 92+ binaries, and v200 binaries) should be compatabile to run on all three calcs now. I should mention that the game is very hard, especially on the Hard Difficulty setting (which is the default difficulty level), so you may want to make sure the difficulty level is set to easy. Also, the only real calculator that the game has been tested on is a HW2 89, and I am unsure if it will work correctly on other Hardware versions/calculators. It has, however, been tested on VTI for all three calc types. Thanks again, and reply with any bugs and/or suggestions you may have. Note: On the 92+/v200 versions, F1 confirms in the menues instead of 2nd. I don't have any way of testing whether or not the key setup on the 92+/v200 versions is awkward.

I don't own one, but you just have to look at a keymap to see why. Please remap the keys differently for the V200 than for the TI-92+, in order to accomodate for the changes in physical disposition: F1 -> HAND F2 -> F1 F5 -> Q Speaking from experience, the keys are fine on the TI-92+, even though I have yet to send the program to my TI-92+. In particular, Q would be a very bad key choice on the TI-92+. * Could you please make ENTER (all 3 of them on the TI-92+/V200, which means checking both of the keyboard matrix entries) work for confirmation in the menus?

The reason I didn't test it before is because there is no Agenda version for the TI-89, and that is the only calculator that I have.

Seeing more of the game area helps a lot. * In the team selection, I have to press cursor keys and 2nd/F1 for a very long time for it to react. This is a bit annoying. You might want to make it react quicker to the first press and wait longer only for the repeat. * A bug: In exhibition mode, the computer can select the same team as you (for example New York vs. New York). * One thing I am not sure is a bug (I am not an expert of hockey rules), but think it probably is: Shootout allows you to score goals from the opponent's turn (by taking the puck from the attacker and counter-attacking with the goalie). Is this allowed in ice hockey? * I have yet to test link play.

The difference in CPU speed seems not to be an issue at all. Only problem: sometimes I get stuck in the waiting loops (luckily, you didn't forget to check ESC in those loops ). I got stuck in the "waiting for other calc to join" loop, then I put out the link cable on both ends and put it back in, suspecting a contact problem, and then I got stuck in the "waiting" after the team selection. When I tried again, it worked.

I will look into both of these. Thanks! About the ShootOut Mode, I'm not sure either. To tell you the truth, I just made up the '5 seconds to score' thing. If anyone would like an updated version of Hockey, with a few bugfixes (There was one that will sometimes stop the games early and go to ShootOut mode immediately) and the key layout for the v200 suggested by Kevin Kofler, please let me know. I thought about it some and realized that every time a calculator enters the 'Main Menu', OSLinkOpen(); is called to ready the link. If one calculator enters into the "waiting for other calc to join" screen before the other calc enters it's Main Menu, the signal from the 'Host Calc' will be erased by the OSLinkOpen(); function and both calcs could then be "waiting for other calc to join". Is this how the calcs stalled for you, Kevin Kofler? It may be also, that the two calcs entered the multiplayer option at the exact same time, though I highly doubt it. I think I will move the OSLinkOpen(); function to somewhere else, just in case it is the problem. Digital Gear, thanks! I will send you the updated files as soon as I can. There has been absolutely NO testing on a v200 yet, real calc or VTI, so I have no concrete way of knowing for sure if something is broken on the v200 version. The key layout suggested by Kevin Kofler above for the v200 has been integrated into the version I am sending you. I expect there may be some bugs in the _rowread values for the v200 version? #Edit: Digital Gear, what email address should I send the Hockey Files to?
